Proud owner Al Beck displaying a pair of early Low Impedance models

Here is an interesting one-off second edition LPR!
The metal parts are gold plated; The unbound fingerboard has LP Artisan Inlays; The scratch plate and control plate are custom bound; The black finish covers the body binding. Thanks to Bob Kearns for sharing this with us. If anyone knows anything about "Billy Milsap" we would be pleased to hear from you?

Guitarist Andy Taylor sporting a fine pair! The Recording is reported to have belonged to Jan Akkerman (see below).

The Les Paul Personal pictured above and right belongs to Simon Davidmann. It is in pristine condition and was bought complete with the original Gibson AD-1 Transformer.

The Les Paul Recording to the right belongs to Glenn Arnold. The serial number indicates that it is probably one of the earliest (1972?) and looks to be in excellent condition although some remedial work was done by Jimmy Foster in New Orleans. Bought in 1981, the guitar was lost and then found again in 1983/84 in what Glenn describes as "religious" circumstances. Like a lot of Recording owners Glenn admits to not having known what all of the various controls actually did for many years but is now getting to know the guitar all over again and is searching for a suitable lead to be able to use it as was intended. Glenn's words: "It may very well end up outliving me, and being the only guitar I really need! If you ask me how it compares with the other guitars I own I'd have to say, It doesn't (compare) at all. It is truly in a class by itself".

This is an interesting guitar that began it's life as a Les Paul Personal. Dutch guitarist Jan Akkerman decided to have it transformed into what we see here. The original top has been replaced with a "tiger stripe" cap and three Humbuckers fitted. Nice one Jan!

Jan can be seen playing the original un-modified guitar complete with Impedance Matching Transformer in a 1970's clip from the DVD "Masters From the Vaults"
My thanks to Leigh Woolford for the info and for letting me view the DVD.

Photo from the Dutch Guitarist Magazine.

The guitar to the right is a Gibson Tony Mottola Prototype which utilised the Low Impedance Electronics of the Les Paul Personal/ Recording etc. This is the only known example of this model.

Dave:

I´m very pleased to meet your page about the Les Paul Recording. For about 15 years I´ve owned a 1978 Les Paul recording and for me it is so very strange that Gibson never give information about this rare guitar in its URL. My beauty has a beatiful walnut finish. I would like to keep in touch with you and all of happy owners of recordings.

Best regards,

Oscar Casanova Gayle
